For several years now we have seen a significant rise in sales of CBD (cannabidiol). CBD is a cannabinoid derived from the hemp plant. It is cultivated globally, and is now famous for it's healing properties. It is not only beneficial to physical health, but it can also address mental health conditions too. In addition to this, supplementing with CBD is great for general wellbeing.
For centuries the cannabis plant has been used medicinally, with many cultures having a strong belief in it's healing properties. It has also been used spiritually, and is still to this day, viewed by many as an important part of natural remedies.
Hundreds of years ago, when the healing properties of the cannabis plant were first recognised, it was Delta 9 THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), (otherwise now known as 'grass', 'green', 'Mary Jane', 'reef', 'smoke', 'dope', to give it the street names widely used), that gave robust results.
Delta 9 is the psychoactive component of the cannabis plant. It gives a mind-altering experience, however, it is illegal in most countries. It is an offence to cultivate, possess, supply or use Delta 9, and there are varying penalties, depending on where in the world you are, for doing so.
The legality matter does not take away the fact that Delta 9 THC has healing properties. It is now used in prescribed medication, albeit in exceptional cases. It is hoped, by those in particular who support it's medicinal benefits, that one day Delta 9 THC will be legalised globally.
The hemp plant produces CBD (cannabidiol), and is grown for industrial and commercial use worldwide. There are a wide range of CBD products now available, or products that contain CBD. Initially available online, CBD is now a familiar sight on our high streets.
CBD is known for it's non-psychoactive properties. It is legal and safe to use, and it's not addictive.
Probably the most familiar CBD product is CBD oil, but there are also CBD edibles, CBD hash, CBD flower, CBD vapes & cartridges, CBD personal care products, and much more available.
In recent years we have seen the introduction of Delta 8 THC (tetrahydrocannabinol). Delta 8 is actually CBD, but converted with specific chemicals. There is some controversy surrounding Delta 8, as it is mildly psychoactive. However, unlike it's close relative Delta 9, it does not leave the user in a 'stoned' mindset. In fact, Delta 8 has shown to improve cognitive function.
In 2018 the American Farm Bill classed anything that is derived from the hemp plant as lawful. Although the CBD compound has been modified to produce Delta 8 THC, technically it is CBD. It is, however, a grey area, and only time will tell what happens next.
Delta 8 products have pretty much the same range as CBD. You can buy Delta 8 flower, Delta 8 oil, Delta 8 hash, Delta 8 vapes & cartridges, and others online. Although at the moment, there is no high street presence.
If you are using Delta 8 for the first time, be mindful that it is mildly psychoactive. It will give a relaxed state, but will also give alertness and clarity, quite the opposite to Delta 9 THC.
As with anything your body is not familiar with, caution is the key. Physiological factors such as, gender, height, weight, etc. should be considered, because everyone is different.
There are low, medium and high tolerance doses of Delta 8 THC in each gummy. If you are unsure of how much to take, it's best to start on the low level at first, and build if needed from there.
Be mindful also that it takes around 2 hours for one gummy to take effect, so don't be tempted to have another!
