The hemp plant has been grown for hundreds of years, mainly because of it's versatility.
It originates from the Indian subcontinent, but then spread to China, France, Russia and Africa.
Hemp is a relatively easy plant to grow. It will adapt to many soils as long as they are damp, and it prospers in the light.
From early on it became apparent that hemp would and could have many uses. For instance, commercially and industrially hemp is grown for the following uses :
- production of food
- use for insulation
- production of clothes and textiles
There seems to be no limit of what this amazing plant can give. In more recent times the discovery of CBD (cannabidiol) has caused much interest. This has been due to the amazing health benefits CBD can give.
CBD is derived from the Cannabis Sativa plant from which hemp and marijuana are also produced. The CBD is extracted from the cannabis buds and flowers of the plant. Once extracted, the CBD resin is added to a carrier oil, namely MCT.
MCT (medium chain triglyceride) is found in coconut oil, palm oil and diary. MCT typically travels from the gut to our liver. It also aids the growth of good bacteria and can promote endurance when physically exercising.
Contrary to popular belief CBD is non-psychoactive, which means it will not give you the feeling of being 'high'. Often there is confusion with CBD and THC (tetrahydrocannabinol). THC is the compound that alters the mind and gives the feeling of euphoria.
Legislation currently in place ensures that CBD levels are no more than 0.3%, making it safe to use.
Industrial hemp farmers who grow purposefully for CBD use are bound by strict regulations and guidelines. In Europe regular analysis of growing hemp must be monitored constantly and consistently. Anything above 0.3% CBD would deem it illegal.
CBD flowers and CBD oil are now widely available. Many high street shops stock the supplement and it can be easily bought online.
Many people now advocate CBD supplements as an effective remedy for a wide range of ailments from arthritis to lack of sleep.
Our bodies have their own endocannabinoid system, the system helps repel outside stressors. CBD is a phytocannabinoid and is plant based, which works very well with our own endocannabinoid system. These two elements boost the immune system and make it stronger. It is believed this is the reason CBD has a very powerful effect on fighting disease, and also promoting general health and well being.
