Drug Testing for CBD/THC - The Facts

It has now become normal procedure for many employers globally to drug test prospective or current employees.

Usually it's with health and safety in mind that drug testing is carried out in the workplace.  It covers a wide range of jobs, i.e. from operating machinery to dealing with the public.  Largely it is down to the discretion of the employer to enforce such measures.  As the occurrence of accidents and incidents increase in the workplace, drug testing is becoming the way forward.

As different drugs, whether they are recreational or prescribed, have become more and more accessible, a need has developed to ensure a workforce is clean and drug free.

Drug screening is now an important part of employment procedure.  It has become apparent in recent years that the use of alcohol and drugs pose risks that an employer and an employee cannot afford to take.  The liability of negligent behaviour due to drug or alcohol abuse is a consequence no prudent employer wants to take.

As there are so many different drugs available including alcohol, it would be wise to abstain not only if there is a drug test imminent, but also for good health.

Alas, this is sound advice in an ideal world, but in reality temptation and circumstance is far too great for some.

Depending on what is put into our system, it can take days, even weeks for it to exit not only our bodies, but sometimes our minds.

In the world of hemp, there is still some confusion around CBD (cannabidiol) and THC (tetrahydrocannabinol).

To put it into simple terms, CBD (cannabidiol) is a cannabinoid found in the hemp plant.  There are many benefits of using CBD, whether in flower or oil form.  In recent years it has been hailed as a 'cure all' supplement.    CBD is a natural healer and has been proven to help with many illnesses and ailments.

CBD helps to deal with pain efficiently and effectively.  It has very beneficial properties that address conditions such as epilepsy, arthritis, depression, eczema, psoriasis, poor sleep, and many more.

Another plus for CBD is that it is non-psychoactive, which means it will not give you a feeling of being 'high'.  This is because is contains less than 0.2% of THC, (in some countries 0.3% THC is acceptable and legal).

Now, THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) is also a cannabinoid found in the hemp plant.  However, it is the THC component that gives the feeling of euphoria and being 'high'.  Ardent users of marijuana do so because of the 'hit' THC gives them.  It can not only give a psychoactive experience, but it can instill an extremely relaxed and carefree mindset.

Theoretically CBD should not show up on a drug test as the THC content (0.2%)  or even (0.3%), is too low.  These low levels of THC present in CBD therefore would not cause impairment.

For those who don't want any THC present, CBD isolate is the preferred choice.  CBD isolate is pure CBD and contains no THC whatsoever.  CBD isolate can be more expensive than other CBD products, but for peace of mine, worth it.
